TOKYO―Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502) today announced an memorandum of understanding(MoU) with Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian Post (Russian Post) that will strengthen their comprehensive collaboration in improving postal and logistics automation systems in Russia. The first order received under the MoU covers supply of micro packet sorter lines for the Moscow International Exchange Center and the Novosibirsk International Exchange Center.
Delivery under the approximately 1.2 billion yen contact is now underway, with operation scheduled to start within the year. The newly announced MoU also included provision for the Japan Bank for International Cooperation to consider provision of financing for future Russian Post projects.

Under the MoU, Toshiba will continue to provide Russia with solutions for logistics and postal services that improve operational efficiencies.”
Growth in e-commerce is driving a large increase in imported parcels. In 2016, volume expanded twice as many from the previous year. Russian Post plans to automate seven international exchange hubs in key centers that include Kazan, Rostov and Khabarovsk.
Toshiba was system integrator for Russian Post's introduction of new equipment at its Logistics Centre at the Moscow International Exchange Center. It started to install letter and parcel sorting machines at the end of 2014, and a new customs inspection system will be completed by the end of this year. Toshiba has handled the system layout and operation flow, integrating automated equipment that handles parcels and mail of various sizes. Progress so far has already significantly improved productivity and realized positive results in Moscow.
