Toshiba Corporation has won an order to supply a pure hydrogen fuel cell to Showa Denko K.K., a Tokyo-based chemical company. Hydrogen to fuel the system will be extracted from recycled used plastics by Showa Denko, and the fuel cell will help to meet the energy needs of a new Tokyu REI hotel under construction in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture.

Toshiba Corporation will take the lead in a demonstration project in Hokkaido that will establish the viability of a locally-based supply chain to support low-carbon, hydrogen power systems for small communities.
